she's slammin'

Elizabeth's 2nd grade class has been studying poetry over the last few months starting with haiku during their study of Japan.  The culmination of their poetry study was a poetry slam yesterday afternoon.

The poetry slam was hosted at a local coffee house.  We made a 10 block walk from her school to the coffee house.

All of the 2nd graders were excited and many were nervous, but all did a fantastic job!

They are fortunate to have Mr. Bob, a faculty member at NC School of the Arts, as the drama teacher at Elizabeth's school.  He's also the co-slam master for the local slam club in our area.

Elizabeth did a magnificent job both writing and performing her poem.  She earned a 26.8 out of a possible 30 points in the poetry slam.

The Plums

Sorry I ate the plums
you were saving for dinner.
They tasted so good
that I felt great and powerful.
They tasted like a big, juicy popsicle.
