Montessori Monday

Now that we've made the official decision to begin homeschooling Finn, I decided to join Nicole's Montessori Monday group by posting the Montessori activities Finn is working on each week. We're in full acquisition mode right now in setting up a space for him to store and to work on his activities, but we're already beginning the process of transitioning him mentally to doing his "school work" at home.

In the last week, we've worked on his geometric shape puzzles and label cards.

He's matching the numerals 1-12 with their corresponding number-of-items cards. This set goes up to 25 so he has some growing room with them.

One of his favorite works at school is the flower arranging work. To accomodate his desire to place small vases of pretty flowers around the room, we've started doing this work at home too.

After picking his dandelions, he arranges them nicely in one of a few glass vases we picked up at Goodwill.

Then he pours the water into the vases (and cleans up the inevitable spilled water) and places the vase in a "pretty spot".

A new set of cards that he really enjoyed this week was a set of sequencing cards. He is matching a set of 3 puzzle cards to show the progression of an activity, and of course, describing the cards as he matches.

Another school work that we've imitated is his "sticker work". He has a sheet of paper divided into 10 squares with a number in each square (sometimes the numbers are in order, sometimes they are randomly placed) and he has to put the right number of small stickers in each box. He's very excited about the funny monkey stickers we bought (and teeny, tiny Dr. Suess stickers we found) for this work.

What are you working on this week?
