the woods in winter

We took advantage of the unseasonably warm temperatures yesterday to take the boys on a walk through one of our favorite woods while Elizabeth was off honing her archery skills with some friends.  We inspected every little patch of green we found, were amazed by the dozens of dead leaves we found still clinging to limbs for dear life, and raced down a long hill many times until poor Finn's legs gave out and he found willing shoulders to carry him.  It was a lovely respite from winter's cold.

  1. We are enjoying the warmer weather too. I'm sure it won't last long though. Your pictures are amazing!

  3. I recognize those woods! I think the leaves you are seeing are from Beech trees which hold their leaves until new ones come in the spring. We have a lot of Beech around here too.

  4. Beautiful photos! My little son and I spend a day like this in a wooded area yesterday--no snow for us. We were scouting out the location of his birthday party. The woods in winter are very beautiful.
