Yarn Along

For this week's Yarn Along I don't really have an work-in-progress knitting project.  I just cast off my latest project last night, but I'll show you what's next up on the needles.  This beautiful pastel Araucania yarn will make a Bitty Bump for a sweet little one. A lovely spring cardigan, I think!

I just started reading The Call of the Wild aloud to the kids, which I desperately wanted to find time to read before the end of winter.  I found this copy of it at our local used bookstore and completely fell in love with "The Whole Story" version of this classic.  I will definitely be on the lookout for more classics in this style.  Each page of the story is rife with pictures, tidbits, newpaper articles, and information in the sidelines about the location, author, time period, and culture that may pertain to the story.  I'm skipping most of it as I read it aloud, but I plan to take some time at the end of the book to go back over the most relevant parts. I hope the kids will explore the book some on their own as we read too.

As for the project I just finished, Finn came home last week bursting with excitement, "Mama! It's Dr. Suess's birthday so we celebrated today by reading some of his books, and we're going to wear crazy socks on Friday! Can you make me some?!"  This, of course, was on Thursday afternoon.  We managed to dig up a pair of crazy socks that he already owned for last Friday, but since March is National Reading Month, his kindergarten class will have "crazy sock day" EVERY Friday this month.  So this mama set to knitting.  It was a good way to rid my stash of some scrap sock yarn anyway. :)

  2. Those are fabulous! My mom made a crazy pair with her odds and sods, and they turned out a bit larger than she'd planned. So I graciously took them off her hands and they're MY favourites! Love that blue yarn...some yarns you just want to taste, almost!
